Community Impact Initiative (CII)

The Community Impact Initiative a series of dynamic, workshops and events crafted to empower Manitoba’s youth, particularly from Black and marginalized communities. Through hands-on art projects, storytelling, and cultural exploration, this program celebrates heritage, fosters unity, and builds confidence. Each session concludes with a vibrant community showcase, where participants share their creations, spotlighting the power of creativity and diversity. This initiative tackles economic and social barriers by providing accessible, enriching experiences that inspire and uplift.

Purpose and Objectives

The program is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where youth can connect with their roots, forge friendships, and gain valuable skills. Our objectives are:

  • Celebrate Cultural Heritage: Enable youth to explore and take pride in their cultural identities through art.

  • Promote Social Inclusion: Break down barriers and combat anti-Black racism by fostering cross-cultural understanding.

  • Empower Youth: Build creative, social, and academic skills to prepare participants for future success.

  • Strengthen Community: Unite diverse groups through shared artistic experiences, enhancing Winnipeg’s social fabric.

These goals reflect our mission to uplift marginalized voices and create lasting change through creativity.

Target Audience

This program is tailored for:

  • Youth Aged 10–17: With a focus on Black youth, newcomers, and visible minority groups facing social or economic challenges.

  • Families: Parents and guardians are welcomed at the closing showcase to celebrate their children’s achievements.

  • Winnipeg Community: Public events invite all residents to engage with and support our youth.

By prioritizing inclusivity, we ensure underserved youth gain access to transformative opportunities.

Activities

Participants dive into a rich lineup of creative experiences:

  • Hands-On Art Projects: Guided by local artists, youth craft pieces inspired by African art traditions, such as textile patterns.

  • Storytelling Sessions: Cultural narratives link art to history, deepening participants’ appreciation of their work.

  • Collaborative Creations: Youth team up to produce a collective artwork, symbolizing unity and diversity.

  • Community Showcase: A final event where participants present their art, connecting with peers and families.
