Developing Underrepresented Talents and Inspiring Future Leaders (DUTIFL)
This project connects established professionals with young learners through structured mentorship and workshops designed to build strong academic foundations, improve time management skills, and foster positive peer engagement. By equipping youth with the tools and guidance needed for success, we aim to empower them academically and socially, ensuring a brighter and more equitable future.
Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of this initiative:
- Strengthen Academic Foundations – Improve participants’ study habits, time management, and critical thinking skills.
- Enhance Mentorship and Leadership Skills – Connect youth with experienced mentors to develop confidence and leadership capabilities.
- Foster Cultural Awareness and Inclusivity – Promote multicultural learning and interaction, helping participants appreciate diversity.
- Improve Social Engagement and Community Connections – Equip youth with interpersonal skills, reducing isolation and negative influences.
- Increase Educational and Career Readiness – Provide resources and guidance to prepare participants for future academic and career success.
Target Audience
This program is tailored for:

Youth Aged 10–17: With a focus on Black youth, newcomers, and visible minority groups facing social or economic challenges.

Families: Parents and guardians are welcomed at the closing showcase to celebrate their children’s achievements.

Winnipeg Community: Public events invite all residents to engage with and support our youth.

Activities
Participants dive into a rich lineup of creative experiences:
- Academic Enrichment Workshops - Sessions focus on developing study techniques, problem-solving, and effective time management. Led by educators and professionals to provide direct guidance and support.
- Mentorship & Leadership Development - One-on-one and group mentoring sessions with professionals in various fields. Activities include confidence-building exercises, career guidance, and networking opportunities.
- Cultural Awareness & Inclusion Initiatives - Interactive discussions and guest speaker events promoting diversity and inclusion. Opportunities for youth to engage with different cultures through art, storytelling, and shared experiences.
- Community Engagement & Peer Support Networks - Encouraging teamwork and collaboration to build meaningful connections among participants. Workshops on communication skills, conflict resolution, and emotional resilience.
- Career and Education Planning - Sessions on scholarship applications, career pathways, and post-secondary education guidance. Guest panels featuring professionals sharing their experiences and advice.
